I put my exec enlightenment under my xinitrc file and it works fine. Have you tried seeing if your distro has a configuration or something? What are you using to log in?

So basically Enlightenment has been set as the default WM for my root account. When I'm logged in as User and I try to run su enlightenment tries to open but can't because I'm in Gnome. Also when I'm in the login manager and login as root it always goes to Enlightenment, whether I tell it to open as failsafe terminal, or Gnome. This would be fine however when I'm logged in as root in Enlightenment and I try to open either Eterm or Xterm they flash open and then close. Any suggestions? I don't mind having Enlightenment as the default for the root, but I can't obtain easy access to this account so it's rather frustrating.

Thanks,
Brogan
