I have xorg-server-1.5.0 (also had 1.4.x) on my laptop, and I haven't had  
problems like you describe.

I suspect some configuration problem with your keyboard but I'm not very  
familiar with the new xkb stuff, so if anybody has a clue about what is  
going on please speak up.
