Also, if some theme is completelly crashed, not allowing you to manage the 
settings, you Just need to remove the buggy theme (by command line, or any file 
manager) ans restart E (Ctrl + Shift + End).
It'll fall back to default theme again.

I've been using E17 for a long time and I only remember a couple of
occasions in the early days where there were minor issues that were
theme related.  It's easy to switch back via Settings - Theme - System
- default and hit the Apply button. Assuming your distribution has not
disabled it there is an Online button to get themes over the wire.
