Could I write an ecomp plugin to take control of the wall paper?  Basically, it 
would do what you just outlined, and then run another plugin, like gears inside 
the desktop cube...  Speaking of which, Could this same idea be extended to the 
desktop cube background (which I don't seem to have a way to set, atm)?
