am quite active today :)

What really bothers me is this strange icon view in file browsers. To
me it is of no worth. I can't find anything in this fancy wallpaper. It
also draws in further problems like that the label is pushing the
neighbours out of sight in efm. Breaking the labels or even placing
thumbnails irregularly by their individual size, like done by nautilus,
is worse too.

However, the list view is too lame, and the detailed view too compact.
I'd rather like to have a view that shows both thumbnail and details in
one block (a bit like in card-based layouts), and the blocks cascaded
and with fixed size. If one wants to see more of the label (if one
line is not enough) there is a handle to open the full text-view,
stretching the block and pushing the blocks below downwards.

Something like this:
