If you have a static background, and if it's the same for all desktops, use Esetroot (comes with Eterm) to set the pseudotransparent background to the same image as your E background. If it's not the same for all desktops, you'll have to keep gkrellm on just one desktop. You're better off using a compositor. e17setroot was an independent project and stopped working ages ago.
