I wonder if Jeff's problem relates to this observation I just made. Some USB sticks will not show up on the desktop when plugged in. These are USB sticks which have been formated as a large floppy disk. When they are plugged in they show, e.g. /dev/sdb, not /dev/sdb1: usb 2-1.1: new high-speed USB device number 5 using ehci_hcd hub 2-1:1.0: port 1 not reset yet, waiting 10ms usb 2-1.1: USB quirks for this device: 2 usb 2-1.1: default language 0x0409 usb 2-1.1: udev 5, busnum 2, minor = 132 usb 2-1.1: New USB device found, idVendor=1516, idProduct=8628 usb 2-1.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 2-1.1: Product: Gizmo! overdrive1492632974 usb 2-1.1: Manufacturer: Crucial usb 2-1.1: SerialNumber: 1492632974 usb 2-1.1: usb_probe_device usb 2-1.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 2-1.1: adding 2-1.1:1.0 (config #1, interface 0) uas 2-1.1:1.0: usb_probe_interface uas 2-1.1:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id usb-storage 2-1.1:1.0: usb_probe_interface usb-storage 2-1.1:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id scsi7 : usb-storage 2-1.1:1.0 scsi 7:0:0:0: Direct-Access Crucial Gizmo! overdrive 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 sd 7:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] 1997312 512-byte logical blocks: (1.02 GB/975 MiB) sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sdb: sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk The device can be mounted with pmount or even using the KDE/Dolphin GUI, and show under /media, but it will not show on the e17 desktop.
