Any particular place you're starting the Desktop Entry Editor?  I start it
from Settings->Apps->Personal Application Launchers->Add, but I vaguely
remember seeing it in other places.

 It works for me, but I do have the same problem as you with the Select an
Executable.  It doesn't populate the application field at all.  Definitely a
bug, and you should probably report it in phab.enlightenment.org.  Otherwise,
if I type in the application lcoation and other details, it saves the desktop
file perfectly fine in ~/.local/share/applications/ .

 I'm running E18.8 with efl1.10.
