Thank you both for the help. I have downloaded the PKGBUILD file from Arch and run makepkg against the installed version of efl. I forgot to add the debugging flags, but I let the package to finish building and installed it. Apparently the reinstall fixed the problem. So I am not sure it's worth rebuilding with the debugging flags after all.
