I came across an issue last week on a laptop with Arch Linux and
enlightenment from the Arch repo's.
I am running enlightenment 21.3 with efl 1.18.4.3 and the linux kernel
4.11.2-1-ARCH x86_64.
On the last update I opened a terminal and used the su command and then
updated Arch with pacman -Syu. This did not update enlightenment or eff but
a few other applications which I do not remember. After a reboot I lost the
ability to use the su command from the terminal.
I can drop to a terminal using ALT-CNTR-F3 and log in as a user and use the
su command.
I can log in using KDE plasma and use the su command in a terminal.
I just can not su while under enlightenment desktop. In a terminal under
enlightenment I get:
[eric@home ~]$ su
Password:
su: Authentication failure
I had first thought it was a misspelling but that was not the case. I also
tried with a different user.
I am guessing that a module or service is not being loaded or I corrupted
something but do not know where to look.
I will probably re-install Arch tomorrow as I am at a loss.
If anyone can help I will sure appreciate it.
This is a known bug in Linux Kernel itself. There is a patch getting
backported to the next stable release. Best solution at this time is
to just go back to Linux 4.10. No need to re-install.

OK,
Thank you for the information.
