left click on that -> settings... you now have a list with only 1 thing in
it... you can add more. more layouts. now when you left click on that gadget you
have a menu with 2 keyboard layouts in it to choose from as opposed to only one.

now for even more fun -> go to settings -> input -> keybindings. you can add
keybindings to switch kbd layouts. add a new binding of whatever key you like
(that isn't already used) and look under action under "keyboard layouts" and
you can bind to an action to go next/prev layout or... use a very specific one
with just that key (for you just a key to cycle to next will do and be simple).
