Hello Thorsten !
3rd Generation modules ate using FTM1 and DFEs are using FTM2. To connect FTM1
and FTM2 you need a DFE-Proxy modul.
Without a Proxy-module you have to connect 3rd gen and DFE via front ports. The
management is different in case that DFEs defie a management module which
configures all the other modules and 3rd gen modules need to configure each
seperately. Also STP, LACP and all other features needs to configure on both
worlds !!
Proxy modules are
7h4382-25
7h4385-49
7h4383-49
7h4383-49

Betreff: [enterasys] Howto use DFE and 3rd generation cards in E7 chassis

Hello,
does anybody know if enterasys offers online documentation about using
dfes and 3rd generation cards in an E7 chassis?

I just tested this with a 7H4382-49 and a 6H352-25 in an E7 chassis and
two pcs each connected to one of the modules could ping each other
successfully.
I also found out that the two modules don't see each other which means
that there are two administration domains where each domain manages only
it's own ports.
Because of this I'm wondering if there are any configuration guidelines
concerning
- the backplane connection
- layer 2 protocols like stp (rstp)
- vlan configuration
- ...?

Does anybody have experience with dfes and 3rd gen cards in E7
chassis?

Many thanks in advance,
Thorsten Steffen
