Tim,
I've used Cacti to trend snmp data for years. We started with MRTG,
but as we added more devices Cacti was much easier to maintain. Trending
data rate, errors/discards and non-unicast traffic is built into Cacti.
I've also developed templates to monitor individual switch router
processes and memory usage. As well as some specific oids that I trend
like topology changes. Cacti seems to have templates already developed
for most devices.
Both Cacti and MRTG use rrdtool to generate graphs. We also use the
Ichinga fork of Nagios for root cause failure alerting in addition to
Netsight alarms. I've looked at flowalyzer from Plixer, we may implement
something like that in conjunction with our K-series deployment.
Netsight now has snmp trending capability with Oneview. I'm just
starting to graph some devices with Oneview. Oneview also has some ad
hoc netflow analysis capability.

Greetings all,
I am in the beginning process of researching a good tool for monitoring
the bandwidth usage of our C5/C3/G3G/N7/N5/N3 Enterasys edge switches
and wanted to see if there were any good recommendations out there.
Right now I am looking at MRTG for the time being but also read about
PLIXER and RRD Tools. Does netsight have any features that can show you
traffic for specific interfaces? Any success with MRTG and Enterasys
SNMP OID’S?? Any useful links or comments would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for your time,
Tim D.
