I've never lost a message that I know of, so I'd start by examining all of
your Rules to make sure what they're doing with your mail.
Also, do you have any timed Schedules that empty folders? I believe the
Empty Deleted Items schedule is pre-set to run at quit. If the message
somehow got moved to Deleted Items, then it may have been permanently
deleted by that Schedule.
