One of the weaker aspects of this whole system is that it is rather
inconsistent. If all main Office apps are closed and reminders are on in
OQV, the Reminder (OQV's) comes to the front and grabs your attention (as it
should, IMO). If Entourage is open and in the front, the Reminder
(Entourage's) comes to the front and grabs your attention. Therefore you
probably assume it always does this. But it doesn't:
If Entourage is open, but NOT in the front, you get a very faint beep, with
no indication what it refers to, and the Entourage icon flashes in the top
RH corner of your computer, so you probably think it means "new mail has
arrived". Nope - in this case it means "A Reminder is hidden away behind
your front application". This has got to be the silliest and feeblest
implementation in the whole of Entourage. Nothing at all is distinctive: the
beep could mean anything in any app, the flashing icon means "new mail" 95%
of the time so how are you supposed to know it means "Reminder"?, and you
can't see the Reminder.
I expect that this will be changed in the OS X upgrade next Fall. In the
meantime, any time you hear a beep, check to see if the icon is flashing.
Any time you see the icon flashing, bring Entourage to the front to see if
it's a Reminder. Pretty feeble, yes? Not what you expect of a Reminder when
you have a busy day. If you can think to do all these things all the time,
what do you need reminders for?
Better might be to quit Entourage every time you want to go to another app.
Then OQV will kick in and bring you a proper Reminder at the right time, and
you'll get the same thing when Entourage is open in the front.
