Rather than start from scratch, your Mac probably came with an AppleScript
that does this already...look in the "Automated Tasks" folder. It's usually
installed directly into your Apple Menu, but if not it should be in your
AppleScript folder. There's an "Add alias to Apple Menu" script which you
could easily modify for your specific needs.
