It never was scriptable in Finder; it was from a scripting addition (I think
Jon's Commands) that has not been ported to X yet. So, no, you can't yet
write a script to play a sound in OS X. If you have separate sound files,
you might be able to use:

Tell application "Finder" to open alias path-to-sound-file

Since I don't have any such sound files I can't test this.
