I don't know why it can't be minimized. If you get used to using the Assistant, you'll find that when you close the Help window, then click the assistant, it will open to the same query and same list of links to help pages as when you first asked it for help. So you just click the same button again, and thus it only takes 2 or 3 clicks to get the same Help page back.
