One thing that seems to have made a difference for me is to *uncheck* the "Send Commands to Server Simultaneously" feature in the Accounts dialog's "Options" tab. If anyone else is having deleted mail reappear, or revert to "unread" after you've read it, please try this and let me know if it fixes the problem.
