Available bandwidth is a finite amount - the more people waste it by filling up their netconnections with material and traffic that is not necessary, the less is available. It's already bad enough to have spammers send out these huge amounts of worthless and unneeded mail, but if you start bouncing mail back and forth into the nether lands, only to have it bounce back to you, you end up being no better than the original spammer - in fact, you are causing twice as much traffic that way.
