Dan,

I can understand that this situation when sending an attachment is
complicated. However, the issue I am touching on is with receiving messages
with attachments that Entourage has successfully decoded and displayed in
the attachments box, not with sending to other clients.

Even though the name is correctly displayed in the attachment pane, the name
is either truncated or obliterated when saving, which is ridiculous given
the capabilities of HFS+ and the use of Unicode by OS X for file names. If
you can display the name you know enough to convert it to UTF-8 for the file
system.
