No. It's a serious flaw in the design. There is a safety measure (which is a
good thing) not to allow you to leave a field blank. But that should only
apply to "Contains". You ought to be allowed to leave it blank for "Is not".
Or there ought to be a popup item "Is blank", which is more in line with how
Entourage presents things.  Or else you should be able to put in a
"wildcard" symbol meaning "any character" for "Contains" or "Is", which
would be getting a bit fancy for an email client/PIM. Although you can find
the results you want with AppleScript, there's no way to display them in a
Custom View.

Feature request: an "Is blank" popup item.
