Mm-hm. Thanks, Nate, although this is more a reiteration of what I wrote
that an answer to my question.

It doesn't really help me understand why Entourage is inconsistent in this
way. After all, even when ordering is based on the 'From' or 'Subject'
columns, secondary ordering is by date, so why does the selection not always
move to to the 'next most recent' message from the same sender or with the
same subject. It seems cock-eyed and bereft of any internal logic to have
one type of behaviour for the 'Sent' column and another for all the others.

This is just an opinion, of course, and I'm happy to by convinced by any
compelling arguments as to why the programme designers felt that this was
the best way to provide an intuitive and consistent experience for users.
