I'm pretty sure that the way this works (I also use different accounts to
deal with .sigs) is that as long as you have not typed in the signature area
(which I think includes the line above the -- part of the .sig), the new
signature replaces the default one. But if you have ever placed the cursor
in the signature area, the new signature is inserted above the old one. This
is to prevent what used to happen if people had typed in the signature area
and then the whole thing (signature and typing) got replaced by a new
signature.
