The display of the preview of images depends on whether or not a preview was stored with the file. It has to be done when the file is created, or modified. GraphicConverter, for instance, can create a preview image for files that do not have them. You have to open the file to do it. Or rather, you use the File Open menu item, and in the dialog box, if the file has no preview, there is a button to Create Preview, which takes less than a second. However, so far as I know, you have to select and click individually for every file.
