A worthy suggestion, Diane, but not really necessary. The whole of both
databases (old and new) does not reside in RAM at the same time, of course.

You certainly know your Entourage, so I don't mean to step on your
suggestion, but let me offer...

I rebuilt my database yesterday, with database file at about 26MB and
messages file at about 55MB and I didn't have to touch my memory allocation,
which has remained at 24MB for quite some time (over a year).

I think the added step of changing allocation is not a required step in a
rebuild-to-eliminate-problems scenario, except to have the potentially
positive side-effect of ruling out memory allocation as the source of some
problem. But, in that case, it would only make sense to increase the memory
allocation _then_ see if any problems persist, if they do persist, _then_
reset memory allocation back to its original, _then_ rebuild database files.
If problem _still_ persists, then you now know that it was neither of those
things.

Changing allocation then rebuilding and noticing that problems are gone does
not give one the information needed to know what fixed the problem.

My order of fixes/tests is: 1) increase allocation of memory in Finder, see
if problem is gone 2) clear newsgroup cache, see if problem is gone 3)
simple rebuild, see if problem is gone. Only once have I really had to go
the extra step of the complex rebuild (and that was before SR1.)

HTH someone!
