          Word. MS only changes the version numbers of individual files when they get changed, but
          provide a single "Office Updater" (thank goodness).
          


I’ve just done the 10.1.5 update myself. I had a lot of the problems some of you did, and then some. I was already updated to 10.1.4, and the 10.1.5 updater would not complete: it encountered a problem trying to update PowerPoint, and I had to quit, twice. I tried reapplying 10.1.2 and 10.1.4, but it didn’t help.

I used Office Remover then (as I had recommended to others). That worked. I emptied the trash (losing my Custom Dictionary which I forgot to salvage first). I re-installed Office v. X – I have the earliest 10.0.0 version. No problems. But then I couldn’t install the whole Value Pack – the installer kept freezing. I know I could just drag the contents over from the CD to the right location, but I wanted to see what it would be like for someone who did not know about this. I had to keep force-rebooting the computer – three times when it got stuck. (Force-quitting just the installer didn’t work.) Eventually, after excluding Clipart, Templates and Proofing Tools (meaning I’ll have to re-apply the later updaters if I ever get them in) the installer finished. Then I had no problems with 10.1.2, 10.1.4 and 10.1.5 updaters.

10.1.5 updates Excel, PowerPoint, and a few files in the Office subfolder: MS Component Plugin, MS OLE Automation (Carbon), ShMem.bundle, and Visual Basic for Applications. These are the only files with 10.1.5. Entourage and Word stay at 10.1.4.

I have no idea what the problem was that 10.1.5 first encountered. I don’t even use PowerPoint. But using Remove Office and reinstalling from the CD and all the updaters got everything going again. Except some of those things from the Value Pack.
