I'm guessing your sound is turned on - you do hear other sounds, right? If not, you'll need to verify your volume settings in System Preferences. If you do hear other sounds, go to Entourage -> General Preferences, click the "Notification" tab, check the option for "Reminder sound", and click OK.
You can do the same thing within the Office Notifications application. Open it (Microsoft Office X/Office/Microsoft Office Notifications), and then click the "Office Notifications" menu. You'll then see the option to "Turn On Sounds" or "Turn Off Sounds", depending on whether they're already on or off.
