I need to send out HTML email to a mailing list for a volunteer organization. I do this in order to have formatted text of different sizes and colors. Someday, I might want to add a logo or simple graphic.
I send the email from a Yahoo non-POP account by copying and pasting the HTML code generated in Word or GoLive into Yahoo's web browser compose window. I notice that the HTML code previews fine in the originating application, in various web browsers on my machine, and in Yahoo's online HTML preview function. But when I receive a copy in Entourage X, there are anomalies. In this case, a dash, apostrophe, and open and close quotes were displayed as unusual characters. I don't see that problem when I receive the same email in the Mac OS Mail app. (Although the size and spacing of the text is very different.) And other recipients on PCs don't see the glitch. Is there something about Entourage X's handling of HTML code that's wonky? Or do I simply need to develop a better understanding of how to create HTML email so it looks the same in all email clients? How do I find out how to do that? I don't mean complex HTML ads like I get from Apple and Adobe. Just a simple text only, or text plus logo email that's formatted so the ideas pop out for easy reading. I can't use an email client to send because the organization's account is not a POP account.
