The maximum size for a database in Entourage vX after application of SR1
(which you have already done)  is 4gb.  You will get progressively more and
more severe warnings as you approach this limit, and you will be prevented
from adding more data when you reach the limit.

Prior to SR1, the limit was 2gb and there were no warnings, and when you hit
the limit the app crashed with loss of data.

Things do slow down a little as the database increases, best thing to do to
relieve this symptom is to keep the 'currently active' mail folders down
below about 1,000 messages. Move older & infrequently accessed mail out to
'archive' folders that you almost never need to open. Keeping the most
frequently used folders small in size will greatly help the impression of
speed.
