Dnes, as a man in a family comprised of four ethnic groups from three of
the four corners of the world (sorry, no Australian), I greatly appreciate
this quandary over spelling.

We now live in a universe where the old and "simple" rules of English rarely
apply when it comes to proper names -- or else the rules of different
languages apply to the same name when spoken by different individuals.
Quebec, Canada comes to mind.

Never would I have thought that I would be rooting for a basketball team
that stars Anfernee (Anthony) and Othella (he was quoted as saying that his
mother loved Shakespeare better than spelling). My wife's name is barely
pronounceable to New Yorkers, many of whom wind up thinking (if they don't
see her) that she has a somewhat similarly spelled man's name.

Anyway, I've learned that young children love conformity and regularity.
Sensible and thoughtful adults, however, thrive on the diversity and the
beauty of our differences.
