Try interrupting the Send and Receive (mine is on all the time) and turn off the junk mail filter (Tools menu)
Collect your mail, and delete the crap manually. Turn the filter back on and hope. BTW I tried doing the "filter on" after DL. It asked if I wanted to apply it then.
