When you rebuild you need space. You need enough hard disk space available
for twice that amount. (As part of the rebuilding process, Entourage creates
a second database file.)

I'm not sure if contiguous space is required. I would check your iMac and
see how full it is. It might be time to do some housekeeping. OS X needs the
swap space and if your iMac is really full, you might be slowing down as a
result.

If there is a way to clone your iMac over to the G5, I would do that. Then
erase the iMac and copy back. Much safer than using a disk defragger.
