The Icon Factory has released a free program to check your download folder
for trojans like the MP3 one.

I doubt it would protect from a trojan that doesn't claim not to be an app,
but there is a way to protect yourself from inadvertently running an app you
didn't mean to run (such as, e.g., a file that looks like an MP3 but is
really an app).

Set up your account as a limited user and limit yourself to running only the
apps you always run. When you download or install a new app, you can always
log in as admin and add it to the list. And when Software Update needs to
install something, you can always supply the admin username and password.

You should always have a second account on your machine anyway -- an unused
administrative account and your everyday account, which for most people is
also an administrative account. But if you make your everyday account a
limited account, you have added a great deal of security, albeit at the cost
of some inconvenience.
