Title: Keep Office X for a While - Problems with Word are Confirmed

An item appearing  today in MacFixit <http://www.macfixit.com/> confirms my previous report to this list and to MacFixit <http://www.macfixit.com/index.php?date=2004-05-17> that certain .doc files created in Word X cannot be opened properly in Word 04. This problem leads to problems with graphics that were imported from a file into the document as grayscale pictures.

Unfortunately, the suggested “workaround” requires that you maintain a copy of Word X to open the file, copy the picture to a graphics program, resave it, then re-import into Word ‘04. It is important to note that simply copying and pasting from Word X to Word ‘04 does not help.

We will need to keep a copy of Word X in our applications folder until this bug is fixed.
