Try the following menu command: Entourage:Preferences:Reply and Forward. Then check off the options to include the message in the reply along with the attribution.
I still need to try another explanation: What I really want is a second search after the first one. For example, if I search for message body containing “location” and “popup,” I get 3 of the 4 messages in this thread, which is what I asked for in the search, but there might be a time when I want to see what the other messages in that thread say.
- What I meant to ask was something like this: I want to get the entire thread when I search, not just the particular messages in the thread that have the search term. For instance, if I search for “message body contains location” and “message body contains popup,” I get your message. What I would like to do is to be able to search further and get the entire thread in which the found message(s) occurs. It’s no problem with one hit, but it becomes harder getting the threads when there are multiple hits. My goal is to be able to look at the entire thread since other messages in it may deal with Excel but not mention Excel by name.
It looks like you are trying to do what is in the following menu: View:Arrange By. Select “Show in Groups” and “Subject”. This will display all of your messages with the same subject together in one group.
What I would like to be able to do to run an enhanced (or second) search for all messages in a thread if at least one of the messages in that thread has the word of interest in the message body. I’m interested in threads that have one message with the word, say Excel, that I’m searching for but that also have other messages in the thread that deal with Excel but don’t mention it by name. Essentially, if I see a message(s) of interest in the Find results, I would like to be able to go to the thread(s) and see the other messages in the thread(s).
(I’m not so concerned about threads that have the word, Excel, in the subject, since all the messages in a thread will be in the results if I search for “subject contains excel.” I am thinking about threads dealing with Excel, but where the word, Excel, isn’t in the subject but does appear in the message body of some, but not all, of the messages in a thread. Those “not all” messages are the ones I would sometimes like to look at, and I was wondering if there were a quick way to get to them.)
The above explanation is still looks complex to me.
Here is a clunky method that gets what I want. Suppose I wanted to see all messages in this thread and that I goten to this thread by searching for “message body containing both location and popup.” I can open one of the messages in the Find results, copy the subject after “Re: “, close the message (if I don’t close it, I get “no results” in the next search), highlight some message in the folder (alternatively, set the default to a specific folder as Paul suggested), and do an advanced search for all messages with the title of the found message.
