'custom view' can't really be 'corrupted' in the way a database can, as it is only a different selection set for the data in the database. It seems to be having problems accessing part of that data, which indicates corruption. To have the selection fail completely at some point indicates a deep seated corruption that needs to be fixed. Why haven't you seen any other sign of it? It is possibly only a problem with one data item - maybe one piece of mail.
