I see what you mean. Command Up Arrow goes up one level; you would think Command Down Arrow would take you down one level. Cmd-O also presents you with the compression dialog, as does Return or Enter. I guess that makes a certain kind of sense; "opening" a file or folder in that dialog is equivalent to saying "attach" it. I think you are stuck with using double-click,or else working in column mode.
