'Windows file name extension' is actually called 'Append file name
extensions' and is a checkbox in the Compose section of the Preferences
window. 

Having said that, if you had corruption problems before you installed Tiger,
it sounds like you might need to look elsewhere for root causes. I'd suggest
verifying the integrity of the database with the Database Utility and then
your hard drive with Disk Utility and, if you have it, DiskWarrior.
