Tiger 10.4.1 with Office 2004 latest updates

Some tips to keep your Tiger running smoothly, and Panther as well.

1. Number one tip: keep your system and Office 2004 updated to the
latest and greatest.

2. Run Disk Utility > Repair Disk Permissions on your system drive (if
you have more than one drive or partition) at least once a month but
definitely after installing updates or software. Do this within Tiger
and not from the Tiger Install disk.

3. Once a month or so, boot up on the Tiger Install Disc and run Disk
Utility > Repair Disk on your system disk (you can't do this when booted
up in Tiger on your computer). Remember, don't run the Repair Disk
Permissions on your system disk from the install disc.

4. When you empty your trash, try using "Secure Empty Trash" under
"Empty Trash" under Finder on the toolbar. The more files you have in
the Trash, the longer it will take. This feature performs

5. Keep files out of your root directory. All applications should be
in the Applications folder or the Utilities folder within the
Applications folder. All documents should be kept within your home
directory either on your Desktop or within the Documents folder. Good
housecleaning is a must with Panther and Tiger.

Happens to me too. In Panther and in Tiger. Solution for me is cleaning
up my desktop (sometimes loaded with files >4GB).

Hope this helps.
