So I’ve been having problems syncing my contacts & calendar with my Treo 600, because all that information was kept on the Exchange Server at work. Now with SP2, I have access to a separate / personal Calendar & Contacts area and I’ve been thinking about just moving all the data to those.
Is there a way that I can move all of that data to my local contacts & calendar, but still keep them synchronized? I realized that I could export the data and import it back in, but the challenge would be synchronizing the two calendars / contacts within one copy of Entourage. Ideally, since I have set categories separating all my items that are work related, I would like to keep just that category synced with Exchange calendar & contacts. Anyone know how this could be done?
Paul – you have any scripts for that?
I do have a free script I'll be posting in a few days, as soon as I put finishing touches on it and write a ReadMe, which will copy selected events and/or contacts from Exchange to local or vice versa (or between multiple Exchange accounts). It can also work for "all items" if you wish. The way you'd use it would be to make a category called "Copied" - or something like that – and make a custom view of calendar events and contacts whose category is not Copied - plus those whose category is Work (for example) if those are the only ones you want to copy over. You'd regularly go that custom view, select all, and run the script, then add "Copied" as a secondary category, which would remove them from the custom view so they won't get duplicated next time. That's it. If I were going to make a 'real" sync script that could keep track of the sync date, etc. and run automatically, it would be a much greater effort and I'd have to charge for the script. I don't think that effort would be warranted at this point, so see how you get on with the free script when I post it. I'll announce it here.
