I repair permissions after installing _anything_ and restart after
installing system-related software. The system updates require you to
restart.

I had an email a couple of days ago from someone who is unable to import
from Now-up-to-date (as I am), asking if I'd found a fix (I haven't), which
means that none of the issues I've raised here - that one, the weird sorting
of company names, the 'Send' on 'Paste' - is unique to my machine, except
that no one else has yet said that their reminders don't sometimes work and,
on the strength of that, I've just compacted and verified my database.
