        It is amazing that you would get that kind of response. I just
checked the Monongahela NF Web site and they have no reference to the
Shavers Mountain old growth stand. What is just as amazing is that the
stand is actually a registered National Natural Landmark and has been
since 1974. There are 14 listed in West Virginia including Cathedral
State Park and Gaudineer Scenic Area

I think I mentioned that Turkey Run also contained some old growth.

I am not up on USFS management plans but the Monongahela should have
recently completed one and when I get a chance I will try to see how
they addressed their “Special Botanical Areas”. At least that’s what
they used to call them.
