I can't say for sure, but the seed pods remind me of Hibiscus seed pods. Up here in NJ we have a native Hibiscus called Swamp Rose Mallow. I have some of their seed pods right here on my computer desk.

I found this shrub growing in a wet pine woodland in Florida . Do any of you have an idea of what it is?
