thanks for taking a look Larry.  So, it wasn't clear what the other
tree was...hmmm. I don't want to say what it is yet because I want to
see if anyone can identify it based on the pix. I think I need a
better pic for the overall form. Here's the "quick i.d" text for the
mystery tree:

•       native of eastern United States
•       drooping branches
•       vase-shaped form
•       trunk often buttressed at base
•       twigs slender and slightly zigzag
•       alternate leaf scars

And if I can confirm this, I'll add: "trunk divides at 10-20 ft. and
continues subdividing as it grows"
