Sunda is a land of paradise for lalab lovers. Lalab, is a dish of fresh leaves and
other part of plants, such as fruits, nuts and even flowers that are eaten along with
the main food (rice).

The Sundanese people have been used to this habit of eating plants, such as lalab, for
generations until today. There is even a proverb that says that Sundanese people will
never be starved even if they were left in a jungle aslong as there are plants for
them to eat. This proverb, which sometimes is used as some kind of joke by the
Javeneses, actually has a deeper meaning. Indonesia is a tropical country that has
abundant biological resources, and even is the world s greatest mega biodiversity
country after Brazil. The Sundanese habit of consuming vegetables like lalab has been
in its culture for a very long time ago.
