Hi! That's the second time I hear such a feature request. See bug 737271 in GNOME's Bugzilla[1] for the first time.
Maybe you can explain the use case behind a non-fullscreen slideshow a bit more in detail, as it's a somewhat uncommon request to me. Is there anything you're missing in fullscreen mode? I am asking as I'd rather not add 'seldomly' used features to eog's codebase directly, to avoid blowing up the code and, as you'd need UI elements, cluttering the UI. However, I'd have no objections if someone wrote a plugin to achieve this. Technically the slideshow mode is a fullscreen mode with a stopwatch that periodically selects the next image in the collection. That should be quite easy to achive through a plugin even if not everything is exported in eog's API.
