Hi list!
I've just picked up a friends EOS5 from repair shop. Camera was in for
onboard flash failure. It looked like only stuck pin in the hot shoe, but
there was some additional circuitry failure. A $72 job.
As I was checking the camera handed back to me I noticed that main dial was
A LOT more easy to turn than it was before. I questioned repair man about
it. He replied that they are now repairing every camera that comes in for
service, because that's designer mistake. Original dial has to strong spring
installed and as you are turning it the pin that is pushed by to strong
spring brakes plastic pinwheel mounted on the dial. To replace the broken
dial they have to replace the whole top part of the camera and the costs for
that par alone is app. $120. All they did is replacing spring and to his
words main dial is now safe! And they did it for free, even that the camera
is long past warranty.
Maybe Canon is waking up?

Good light
