As a digest reader, I am usually a little behind the group on topics...
Last night I did some testing of the laser pointer focus assist idea with my Rebel S
and a 28-80USM V zoomed to the 80mm end.
I used 2 different low contrast subjects, white walls with a light texture low gloss
finish. One wall was about 8 feet away and the other about 20 feet away.
Without any assist, the Rebel S was unable to achieve focus on either subject.
The laser pointer I had available was one of the inexpensive novelty types with
multiple graphics adapters.
The plain single dot was better than no assist, but still not real good.
At the closer range, the wide starburst pattern was the best.
At the further range, the plain star pattern was the best.
Hope others find this interesting....
