How do the brighter screens (with split-image circle and/or
microprisms) affect metering? Autofocus? Do the focus points show
up on the new screens? At what f-ratio do the split-images start
blacking out...are they usable with slower zooms?

I glanced at the Beattie site and their screens are apparently
Fresnel screens...how are they to focus on? I recall my old
Nikkormat had a Fresnel screen with a matte circle along with split
image and microprism (guess they had all bases covered!), and it was
lots easier to focus on the matte circle in low light than the
Fresnel...any light for that matter. Of course, with adequate light
the split image or microprism were the ticket.

I've got an Elan II and just picked up a 50/1.4 for low-light work,
but manual focusing is tough with my eyes...especially in the dark.
;-) I think I trust the autofocus more, but want the option of
manual focus. I'm considering adding an Elan 7, but may go up to EOS
3 if I have to. I just haven't decided how important interchangeable
screens are to me. And that and improved weatherproofing seem to be
the two most important advantages for me for the 3 over the 7.

Sorry for the rambling!

Thanks,

Lee
